How To Make A Career Out Of Globe-Trotting -- May 13, 2008

Back when I worked at the William Morris Agency, I got to spend

a lot of time talking to Sales Agents and Acquisitions Executives

on the phone. One of the first things I noticed was that these

people were always globe-trotting to this film market, and that

film market...and their lives seemed so glamorous. I soon

decided that I wanted to be one of those people. I too wanted

to globe-trot to all the film markets! Plus, I got tired of

hearing all the stories of fabulous meals on the French Riviera

- I knew I had to have a piece of it for myself.

So I became a foreign sales agent and soon I was doing all that

travel I had dreamed of. In fact, it was one of those things

"be careful what you wish for" because just about every six weeks

there's a film market happening SOMEWHERE in the world. And as

a foreign sales agent, I had to be at every one of those markets

- workin' the sales floor by day, and wining and dining buyers

by night.

Why am I telling you all this?

Well with Cannes Market kicking off tomorrow, and then AFM

coming before we know it, I want you guys to understand just

how important Film Markets are to the actual 'business' of Film

Business. I'll put it to you this way, Film Markets are where

Film Distribution HAPPENS.

With that said, I put together what started out as a Film Market

'cheat sheet', but clocking in at over 35 pages is more like

a solid Film Market primer. In fact, I'm going to sell it as an

eBook....BUT, not before giving it away to Film Specific Premium

members for FREE until the end of the month.

Here's a smattering of what I covered in my "Guide To International

Film Markets":

• 12 Things You Need To Know About Navigating International

Film Markets

• Prepping for Film Markets - including what to bring to your

meetings with buyers and investors to make the best impact

• My own personal anecdotes and advice plus how much to budget

for markets

• Which film markets to attend and a break down of each major

international market

• Special Cannes supplement
