The Truth About Digital Distribution -- May 28, 2008
I just landed in NY from London and I have to say I wish I could
have stayed in London just a few days longer....but alas, the
tour must continue! In London we had 2 great events - the first
one with Chris Jones on Sunday - almost 4 information-packed
hours to a very attentive group of people. And on Sunday, a
book signing and distribution clinic at the British Film Institute
where we had another great turnout despite inclement weather
and a bank holiday. So welcome all the new Londoners to this
newsletter! One of the most commonly asked questions during the last 10 days
of travel to Cannes and London has been about Digital Aggregaters.
Digital Aggregaters are companies who specialize in aggretating
content (films, tv programs, webisodes), and securing digital
distribution deals on all the hundreds of worldwide platforms
out there. As a filmmaker, yes you can submit your film to
digital platforms here and there, but you aren't dedicating
your career to knowing every single platform out there, and
what type of deal to make, etc. That's where Digital Aggregaters
come in and so I went ahead and created a little primer for you,
as well as a short list of aggreaters with contact details,
that you can use to get started. Check it out right here: http://www.filmspecific.com/members/662.cfm
and here: http://www.filmspecific.com/members/663.cfm And as I mentioned, I've just landed in NY and tonight, Wed
May 28 I'll be doing a book signing and film distribution clinic
at Barnes & Noble in Tribeca. If you're in the area, do come
out and say HI! You can catch all the details of the event right
here: http://www.filmspecific.com/public/510.cfm Alright everyone, I'm off to hit the streets of the big apple
(with jet lag mind you!). If you have any thoughts or comments
on Digital Aggregaters, please let us know - and post your
comments in the Film Specific Forums: http://www.filmspecific.com/members/forum/openforum.cfm?forum=1 Talk to you soon! Stacey*
