CASE STUDY: The Sensation of Sight

First-time film producer Buzz McLaughlin takes us through his journey of finding distribution for his film, The Sensation of Sight. Shooting the film was only part of the process, Buzz and his filmmaking partner Aaron Wiederspahn, planned meticulously for the life the film would have after completion before they even started raising financing.

Buzz leveraged a great and unique script to put together an impressive ensemble cast for his first feature, lead by Academy Award-nominated actor David Strathairn. Buzz explains just how he was able to put together this cast and how he used it to his advantage to raise funds, interest other actors in his project, and secure a future for the film.

But it wasn't easy and after playing the festival circuit for roughly a year after an impressive premiere at San Sebastian and no acceptable distribution offers on the table, Buzz resorted to self-distribution and leveraging the relationships he had built with press and the local community to do a local theatrical release that was so impressive, the distributors came knocking.

In this case study Buzz explains to us just how he did it -- from putting the cast together to ding a small theatrical self-release that made the buyers take notice.
