What Industry Experts And Members Are Saying About Film Specific

"One of the 50 best websites for movie makers"

    - MovieMaker Magazine

    _____________________________________________

"Since the Latino Producers Academy, I have joined your site as a member and have spread the gospel of your knowledge to every filmmaker and producer I know.

Many of my peers have now become members of Film Specific as a direct result of my word of mouth. I became so vocal about your site over the past year, that my partner Alejandro Seri (Head of Marketing at Final Draft Inc./Script Magazine) took note and also has tracked the success of your site. Since applying the information from your site and focusing on the Marketing and Distribution of our projects first, I have been 98% more successful in my pitches to financiers, Executive Producers and Studios (YES STUDIOS). Here is just a minor list of some of the recent successes we have had:

-Met with and Pitched Drama Project 'Grain' to President of Fox Searchlight Pictures Nancy Utley. (She is currently reviewing the project and loved the Marketing Ideas we had.)

-Optioned Final Girl to Rick Sands (Former COO for MGM). Working with Rick on other Projects as well.

-Had a CAA Cast Table Read for 'Grain' and successfully filled the room with 60 Financiers and Executives. Table Read was sponsored by Logliners.com, CAA, Final Draft, Script Magazine, Showbiz Cafe, Patron Tequila and many more.

-Written coverage for both 'Final Girl' and 'Grain' in Script Magazine, furthering our Marketing push for both projects as well as helping to brand Alejandro and myself as filmmakers.

I want to thank you for providing such valuable information to filmmakers. Your site and service is a must to the indie producer! You empower filmmakers with the confidence and knowledge they need to be successful in today's ever changing film business..."

So, Kudos and thank you very much. It's made a difference for those of us who have a more creative leaning and realize that to be successful there needs to be an understanding of the business of filmmaking even after spending years in the business."

    Linda Nelson, CEO

    www.nelsonmadisonfilms.com

"I planned the production carefully, surrounded myself with team players, and spent three years of my life completing the film, Insidious. During post-production I began to educate myself about, "film distribution, something I knew little of (better late, than never). Then the universe brought Stacey Parks into my life. She is driven on a daily basis to deliver to her audience more than anyone might expect. And for that, I am grateful. Stacey demystifies 'distribution'."

"Insidious now has credible New York representation, and awaits its June 2008 release."

    - Jerry Schram
    Filmmaker, Insidious

"The producers at Either/Or Films first bought Stacey's book on distribution--AFTER we'd made our film, unfortunately--and then joined FilmSpecific.com as Premium members as soon as she put it online. On the road to getting a North American distributor, we listened to every talk and case study she did with industry professionals and also asked alot of questions on the distribution forum. When it came time to locate a foreign sales agent, she was an invaluable help. Distribution is definitely the hardest part of making an independent film, and without Stacey's help we wouldn't be where we are today in finally getting our feature out there."

    - Kristen McLaughlin

After spending 6 years in production on my feature doc "A Friend Indeed - The Bill Sackter Story", I am now at the beginning of the promotion/distribution phase. What a great fortune to find that most of the information that I need is at FilmSpecific.com. Being a Premium Member has unlocked a wealth of current information about distribution, and Stacey's one-on-one consultations are very valuable, answering my numerous questions with her in-depth knowledge of the subject. The audio interviews with key people in the industry have also been enlightening. I have a long way to go to fully utilize all the features on the site, but I definitely would recommend FilmSpecific.com to any independent producer/director that desires to learn the ins and outs of distribution."

Screenwriting teacher, Palm Beach Film School

"You are the first place that one can get a quick answer from the inside, if one has not had the good fortune of training in someone's already successful production or distribution company. I have been self trained for the past 27 years of my film career. I wish you around for more of my growing pains earlier. No one usually wants to share inside information and it is usually because they feel you will become competition in the future. True I guess, but I have always freely given information to people along the way, being a mentor to many others, and felt that there was room for everyone if that person became my competition in the future. Just another reason to get out there and continue to improve myself.

Many thanks to you Stacey. You have really put together a cohesive, friendly, sharing, learning environment for those who NEED TO KNOW."

    Dulanie Ellis: Filmmaker

I've been a documentary filmmaker for the last 12 years, and was previously a Script Supervisor for feature films & television for 15 years. I'm currently in production on a feature doc with a partner: A Greater Mission is about our returning veterans from Iraq & Afghanistan who are going into organic farming -- both to recover from the trauma of war and to provide food security for our country.

I took Stacey's Business Plan 2.0 Bootcamp and found her to be an invaluable resource for all the stuff I don't know, but want to learn. The class helped me get a more realistic perspective on what distribution platforms are possible and how much money we might realistically expect to make.....if all the stars align and we work our fanny off!!

I've produced about half a dozen short docs on my own and raised the money from local sources. Because this film will be feature-length and national in scope, I need to up-level the business infrastructure, my fundraising savvy and our distribution possibilities. As a result of the 2.0 Bootcamp, my partner and I have decided to hire Stacey to consult with us so that we are preparing for our endgame at the beginning.

    Steve Gast: Writer/ Director/ Producer

Hi Stacey and FS members! I am a filmmaker from Saginaw, MI. Two years ago a company wide layoff freed me from corporate jail, allowing me to follow my passion for film. Since then I have worked on the crew of the award winning shorts Raised Alone, The Fall of a Sparrow and The Drop, and did promotional work for Saginaw's first feature film, Street Boss. I wrote and directed my first short film Last Call which will screen in two film festivals this Fall and am in pre-production for my second short Killing Kevin (http://tiny.cc/6jfy4) which will film in September. I am currently co-producing a feature film, Zomedy which we plan to film later this Fall.

I am a student of Stacey's course Distribution in Reverse and have been applying the principles learned to Zomedy. The film is an ensemble piece and while we plan to cast one to two bankable names for national and international distribution, some parts will be played by talented local actors who can help with marketing asap. We did a poster shoot of them for the Zomedy Facebook page and filmed interviews to show investors and add web content. Two of the actors gave insightful passionate answers to help people get excited about the film. However we had a little trouble getting Rob to chip in, as he is a man of few words:http://vimeo.com/13342752

The film's website zomedythemovie is currently under construction, so for the latest Zomedy news go to the Scallywag Zomedy page at: http://tiny.cc/688g9 and the Zomedy Facebook page at http://tiny.cc/wxndo (Click the "Like" button and join our Zombie hoard today!)

I rely on Film Specific daily as I continue my lifelong dream to make movies. I am very grateful to Stacey for the wealth of information she provides and will always look to her first whenever I need help. Good luck on all your projects and see you on the forum!

    Christine Hartland: Producer

I produced my first feature film in 2008, the political thriller WMD by David Holroyd (www.wmd-insidestory.com) now on iTunes, Amazon after a small theatrical release in the UK (Autumn 2009).

Before attending Cannes 2008 where we were taking a just completed film (a few hours before the flight to Nice!) that's when I first joined Film Specific -- I realized I had to learn fast about film distribution and marketing. Thanks to Film Specific website I managed to contact many relevant sales agents and some I am still in contact with. It was really helpful. We got ourselves a sales agent and then in the following months some great quotes including "Eerily plausible... impressive" from Graydon Carter (Editor of Vanity Fair) and 'undeniably gripping' by The Guardian. Now we still carry on promoting WMD via single screenings and have had our trailer accepted to a couple of trailer festivals ( www.youtube.com/watch?v=doLCz2bF5Sw ).

Now I'm trying to raise money for other bigger budget features including NITRATE by Guy Ducker and Gavin Boyter (trailer on www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxzifAE15DA - one of 3 winners of the trailermade competition). Making a trailer helped us enormously and we are now sending the script to cast etc.

I am also helping out on micro budget films, sharing the knowledge I have gained from WMD (a lot!), VERITY'S SUMMER by Palme d'Or Nominee Ben Crowe and producer Emma Biggins currently in post-production (www.screendaily.com/news/production/uk-ireland/shooting-begins-on-ben-crowes-verity-summer/5015665.article ) and LIFE JUST IS by Alex Barrett and producer Tom Stuart currently in pre-production with a great young cast which is very exciting (www.lifejustisfilm.com). Again Film Specific webcast, talks etc have been very useful regarding packaging, marketing, financing including what to do and what not to do when!

One of the challenge with these independent films will be to get them noticed and therefore use as many tools as possible including on-line marketing to its best. It's an adventure for sure!

    Richard Haylor: Actor

My name is Richard Haylor. I am a British actor based in Miami and new to the world of Indie film production.

It all started when I was offered a part in an upcoming SAG Ultra Low production entitled "Lost In Palm Beach". A psycological thriller written and directed by Jon Ellis. Due to start shooting December 1st. I enquired what plans were in place for the film when finished. "Were taking it to the festivals" was the reply.

Full of enthusiasm for the great story that Jon has written but convinced that there was a bit more to it than that. I persuaded them to let me "jump on the band wagon" in a marketing and distrbution capacity.

I confessed that althought I had a business background (20 years as a Professional photographer then later an owner of bars, and Night Clubs in Europe and Miami). I have no experience in film distribution, but would love to take on the role of trying to get the film in a position to be sold.

Enter Film Specific ! Am I glad I found your site, It's brilliant! Everything a new or seasoned producer could wish for.

So, I have been glued to your various tutorials and case studies, as well as referencing all the great associated resources. Who knows what will happen when we take the film into the sales and distribution jungle, but I feel very confident we will be in the best possible shape thanks to you and your site.

    Patrick O'Shea: Filmmaker

I am an award-winning film maker who studied Film & Communications in the Dublin Institute of Technology from 1995 to 1999. I was Head of Operations for the Future TV Media Centre in Dublin for the year 2000, after which I moved to Luxembourg and worked in the film studios of Carousel Pictures and Deluxe Productions.

I have written, directed and produced numerous short films and promo videos. My short film 'Penny', screened at the Cork, Waterford and Clones Film Festivals in 2008. 'Penny' won the Prize for 'Best Drama' at the Corona International Fastnet Short Film Festival 2009. It recently screened on RTÉ as part of its Short Screen series.

My last short film, 'Tunnel', has screened at the Cork International Film Festival, Electric Picnic, The Galway Fringe Fleadh and at Underground Cinema in 2009. I also produced and directed 'The Dublin Writer's Room' in 2009.

I am currently the writer, director and producer of the feature film, 'Tree Keeper' an independent film set in Cork, Ireland. Principle photography is almost complete. I joined film specific to learn more about distribution and sales and have used a lot of the information and tips on your website to help me put my business plan and investment plan together for 'Tree Keeper'. I look forward to delving deeper into all things related to distribution soon as I take 'Tree Keeper' into post-production.
